Few activities in our civic life provide such a direct contact with our democracy as does jury service. Besides voting, nothing is so active and participatory in nature. In fact, Thomas Jefferson believed that serving on a jury is more important than voting. He said, "I consider trial by jury as the only anchor yet imagined by man by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution." Christian County's prospective jurors are chosen by computer in the Circuit Clerk's Office. Jurors are selected for a four-month period, but will only receive a summons to appear when a trial is scheduled. Summons are sent out approximately 2 weeks before the beginning of a trial. Parking Free parking is available to jurors in the lot around the Courthouse and directly behind the Justice Center. Juror Pay Jurors will receive $18.00 per day of service and 50 cents per mile round trip from your residence to the Courthouse. A correct mailing address is essential for payment. You are required to serve if summoned A person who is summoned for jury service and who willfully fails to appear is guilty of criminal contempt and upon conviction may be fined not more than $500 (494.450 RSMo). Missouri Law provides that your employer may not terminate your employment or discipline you because you perform jury service. For more information If you have any questions or if you need an accomodation for a disability, please call. Accommodations are made for jurors with hearing disabilities and or special needs.
